nightmares

Well here's two for my series of nightmares. It is so therapeutic for me to draw these. It's my way of not living in fear. My wonderful art teacher, Professor Nixon, describes it as an exorcism. Which is a scary way to put it, but very accurate.

another sister

This is my little sister Marie, when she was drawing, she looked so sweet! Which is really weird for her....
I have a painting that I will finish on Wednesday, and i cannot wait to show my first two followers (and the fact that one is my mommy does not count)

acrylic gesture

Hello! This is another gesture of my little sister done in colorful acrylic. It really makes me happy how much I can see the resemblance with it being such a rough creation. The brighter the colors in the piece the more fun a creation it is for me. Im working on a nightmare series that should be very drastic and exciting and can't wait to have it finished and posted

So these are two quick sketches that I did of my little sisters when I was home from spring break. I'm actually one of seven kids (were Irish catholic, and very stereotypical, needless to say beer tomorrow and a parade this weekend!)Every time I come home we all draw and paint together. The little ones call me professor lissa as an honorary title.

tree

This is a tree that I did during art class a few weeks ago. I took an exploded pen and a normal pen and went at it! I had had nightmares the night before (a common fuel for my art)and released all of my tension in this piece. I even used my fingers for smudging, which made it feel so personal.

First post

Well this is my first post, my name is Melissa and I am an artist. I love to paint draw and make jewlery, and am in love with etsy. I am 20 (tommorow) and am in college as an art major. My art teacher had me look up a bunch of blogpages and I thought that it would be a good way to keep track of my art progress. So here we go!

I started out in art in the begining of highschool. I was told that I couldnt draw worth a two year old. And, being stubborn, I bought a sketch book and taught myself. 6 years later here I am!

But here is my first painting (sold). This is a nude that I painted last year in the studio, part of a series of nudes in bold colors. A women had me add on her tattoo to the side of it and, though I liked it better before, it was very pleasing to add the personal touch for her.
